To choose or to follow

My beloved young sisters, you have the precious gift of agency. I plead with you to choose to obey.

Thomas s Monson  “Believe, Obey, and Endure”

And finally from President John Taylor: “What is priesthood? … It is the government of God, whether on the earth or in the heavens, for it is by that power, agency, or principle that all things are governed on the earth and in the heavens, and by that power that all things are upheld and sustained.

Thomas S Monson “Willing and worthy to serve”

“Some challenges result from the agency of others. Agency is essential for individual spiritual growth and development. Evil conduct is an element of agency.”

Elder Quentin L. Cook “The Songs They Could Not Sing.”

“We teach that agency is the ability and privilege God gives us to choose and “to act for [ourselves] and not to be acted upon.”  Agency is to act with accountability and responsibility for our actions. Our agency is essential to the plan of salvation. With it we are “free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil.”

Elder Robert D. Hales “Agency: Essential to the Plan of Life.”

“You must exercise your agency to authorize the Spirit to teach you. As you make this a practice in your life, you will be more perceptive to the feelings that come with spiritual guidance. Then, when that guidance comes, sometimes when you least expect it, you will recognize it more easily.”

Elder Richard G. Scott “To Acquire Spiritual Guidance.”

“But the final responsibility to prepare for salvation and exaltation rests upon each person, accountable for individual agency, acting in one’s own family, bearing another sacred title of mother, father, daughter, son, grandmother, or grandfather.”

Elder Russell M. Nelson “Salvation and Exaltation.”

“Understanding that faith is a principle of action and of power inspires us to exercise our moral agency in compliance with gospel truth, invites the redeeming and strengthening powers of the Savior’s Atonement into our lives, and enlarges the power within us whereby we are agents unto ourselves (see D&C 58:28)”

Elder David A. Bednar “Ask In Faith.”

“The Lord declares that herein lies “the agency of man” (see D&C 93:31), and with this agency comes the responsibility for self. With this agency we can rise to glory or fall to condemnation. May we individually and collectively be ever self-reliant. This is our heritage and our obligation.”

President Spencer W. Kimball “Becoming the Pure in Heart.”

“I testify that Lucifer was also in the council of heaven. He sought to destroy the agency of man. He rebelled. (See Moses 4:3.)”

President Ezra Taft Benson “I Testify.”

“I mention first the right of choice. I am so grateful to a loving Heavenly Father for His gift of agency, or the right to choose. President David O. McKay, ninth President of the Church, said, “Next to the bestowal of life itself, the right to direct that life is God’s greatest gift to man.”

Thomas S Monson “The three Rs of choice”
